William Doub
For the past forty-five years, William Doub has tried to capture the essence of organic in his work, drawing upon naturally occurring asymmetric and symmetric forms, textures and tonalities found in the natural world. Additionally, he has been drawn to the Art Nouveau and Art Deco Movements as well as the Arts and Crafts and the vernacular or rustic furniture styles. Many times he gets inspiration for his designs on his many walks in the woods and beaches, collecting found objects such as burls, antlers, drift wood and wooden curiosities.
William Doub's traditional education and training in the trade has provided him with the skills to reproduce classical furniture. These skills in joinery, carving, veneer work and finish are the foundation of his own designs. He learns from every challenge and keeps his mind open to new forms evolving out of technology. Lately, the work of the organic architects such as Zaha Hadid, or the deconstructivist Frank Gehry have captured his attention.
