Representing the works of Imero
Gobbato for more than two decades, Thomas O'Donovan is proud
to exhibit the artist's latest works of acrylic seascapes,
whose monumental images defy their actual small-scale size.
"Turbulence" measures 12 x 16 inches, yet the
artist captures the big, bold gesture of the sea crashing
against and swirling around a majestic boulder jutting up
from the sea.
Making the coast of Maine his home for the past 41 years,
the 84-year-old Italian-born artist continues to draw his
inspiration from the sea. He explains that he is deeply
and spiritually connected to the sea's symbolism: "The
fluidity and ever changing nature of the sea contrasts with
the solidity of the rocks. This to me represents life. As
human beings, we strive to make our world permanent, but
the forces of nature work against us. Our bodies, once young
and solid, grow old in time, following the natural cycle
of life and death."
